where design transforms healing

Rebuilding interior spaces for children and families facing a medical crisis to strengthen and encourage recovery

OUR MISSION

Savvy Giving by Design™ is a non-profit, national network of professional interior designers whose mission is to provide comfort, support, and healing to families with a child facing a medical crisis by transforming the interior spaces of their homes at no cost to them.

WE'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE OUR
NEXT RECIPIENT, LIZZIE.

IMG_2907.jpg

At just 9 years old, Lizzie has encountered numerous health obstacles and has been diagnosed with multiple conditions, including Ehlers-Danlos Type III, POTS, HaT syndrome, Gastroparesis, and other ailments like brain lesions, which have all led to several surgeries. She experiences seizures and was recently diagnosed with severe anxiety/PTSD, necessitating the assistance of a service dog named ‘Fred’.

Lizzie’s intricate medical needs require constant care, including overnight nursing for close monitoring. She depends on a G-tube for medications, a j-tube for continuous feedings, and a cecostomy tube for enema flushes. Managing her condition involves administering 25 medications daily.

Converting Lizzie’s room into a sanctuary involves designing a space that caters to her medical demands and facilitates care from her support team.

Additionally, Savvy Giving by Design acknowledges and supports siblings during challenging periods. With the focus heavily on Lizzie's medical needs, her older brother, Adam, sometimes lacks the attention typical for a 13-year-old. Savvy Giving strives to fulfill Adam's wish of having his own space to unwind and enjoy his teenage years.

how rooms inspire healing

Providing recovering children with a positive, stress-free home environment can make an incredible difference in their healing journey. According to long-established studies, access to a comforting space contributes to up to 30% of the healing process. (Robert Ulrich, Journal Science, 1984)

By supporting new room transformations, you’re giving children a space to just “be”, away from the demands of treatment, supporting them as they navigate their new lives both mentally and physically. Watch our video to see how our room makeovers have impacted the healing of our Savvy Giving recipients.
